The Police Administration Department requires several regular full-time and auxiliary Communications Operator 2s to work at the RCMP Detachment. |
Responsibilities | We are looking for experienced police dispatchers who are compassionate professionals motivated to make a difference in their community. As one of the few stand-alone police operations centres in the Lower Mainland, you will develop a strong working relationship with internal and external contacts. You will perform responsible specialized work involving the operation of a police radio, telephones, and computer terminal equipment on an assigned shift. Considerable initiative is necessary in handling all radio traffic for the Detachment, for controlling the priority of such traffic, and for dispatching mobile units in response to complaints and emergency situations. This work requires a high degree of operational speed and accuracy, the use of sound judgment and the ability to work in a stressful environment. |
Requirements | You will have considerable knowledge in the operation of CPIC, PRIME and CAD, radio and recording equipment. Experience as a Police Dispatcher, Information Channel Operator and Complaint Taker is required. You will also have working knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, Motor Vehicle Act and other appropriate bylaws and regulations. Sound judgment, combined with the ability to think clearly and quickly in emergency situations with accurate results is a necessity. Strong interpersonal skills are also required along with demonstrated ability to take initiative, provide exceptional customer service, and contribute positively in a team environment. |
Compensation | $30.94 to $36.39 per hour (Pay Grade 19 – January 2021 rates) |
Hours of Work | Auxiliary – hours will vary Shift work – 24/7 operations (4 shifts followed by 4 days off) including days/nights, weekends and statutory holidays |
Additional Information | You will have the ability to type at a net speed of 40 wpm and possess related education, training and experience. You will be required to obtain and maintain an RCMP security clearance as a condition of ongoing employment. Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete standardized tests or exercises to demonstrate their applicable skills and knowledge. |
