Position Overview

The Engineering, Parks & Environment (EPE) department is looking for a temporary full-time Maintenance Worker – Utilities until approximately April 2024 to join their team.   
Responsibilities
In this position, you will perform skilled manual work involving the installation, maintenance and routine repair of waterworks systems.  You will install, replace and repair water mains and connections; operate, maintain, clean, and test water distribution networks as well as respond to calls regarding low water pressure and discolouration and under direction, perform pressure release valve maintenance and backflow testing. You will also perform routine repairs and maintenance on municipal ponds, civic water features and waterpark drainage systems; monitor and inspect watercourses, culverts, creeks and outfalls and investigate and respond to contaminants entering the same. The position may also supervise other staff performing less complex work.
Requirements
You have completed grade 12 plus possess considerable related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  A valid Class 5 BC Drivers’ License and a BCWWA Water Distribution – Level 1 certificate are both requirements.  Work experience in waterworks systems and the other functions of a Utilities environment, supervising others and dealing with the public and contractors is required.  The ability to demonstrate strength and agility to perform physical labour work is also required.
Compensation
$32.06 per hour
(January 2021 rates)
Hours of Work
8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday
