The City’s Engineering, Parks and Environment Department has an exciting opportunity for a regular full-time Section Manager, Traffic Engineering. We are looking for a proactive, dynamic, results-oriented professional with strong communication and organizational skills to oversee traffic engineering and operations. |
Responsibilities | Reporting to the Deputy Director, Infrastructure, you will be responsible for planning, design, implementation, and administration of the traffic signal, street lighting, traffic signage, and pavement markings programs. This includes mid to long range planning and technical direction and prioritization for future system improvements as well as development of asset management business processes to ensure effective and reliable system performance. Responsibilities include the following: · professional oversight and technical direction in the preparation and approval of detailed designs for traffic signals, street lighting, pavement marking and traffic signage installations; · manage the complete project life-cycle of traffic system projects, including concept development and prioritization, budgeting, public engagement, design, tender, procurement and delivery; · manage and coordinate the work undertaken by internal staff, consultants and contractors to meet policy objectives; · supervise union and exempt technical staff; · provide oversight and approval for street-use permitting and traffic management plans proposed by external entities such as developers, contractors, and third party utilities; · liaise with a variety of internal and external contacts; · organize and attend public meetings; provide information and assistance to the public; · prepare and present reports and correspondence; and, · budget planning and cost control. |
Requirements | You have an undergraduate degree in engineering or applied science with professional status and registered with EGBC or out-of-province equivalent. You will also have a minimum of seven years of relevant experience with traffic signal and street lighting projects, as well as management of capital projects, preferably all within a municipal environment. Strong design skills, a demonstrated understanding of municipal transportation and traffic programs and construction, supervisory experience and a Class 5 or better BC driver’s license are also required. |
Compensation | We offer an attractive remuneration and benefits package for this exempt position. The salary range is: $115,344 – $135,696 annually (2023 rates). |
Hours of Work | Compressed work schedule. |
